Aims and objectives of the CLC

  • Improve access to, and use of, the latest education technology for pupils, teachers and the community;
  • Increase attainment levels through use of that technology;
  • Improve the quality of teaching and learning; and
  • Act as test beds for innovation and new ways of working.

The Project and its Aims:
The Shireland City Learning Centre located in Sandwell in the West Midlands ran a Gifted and Talented Summer School in collaboration with Sandwell Education and Business Partnership, which was supported by Apple UK and AT Computers.The focus of the Summer School was on developing English, ICT and Enterprise Skills through the “Apprentice Challenge.” A particular emphasis was placed upon innovation, creativity and developing effective communication skills through improved access to and use of new technologies. Students were asked to create an advert aimed at teenagers to promote the use of new technologies for learning and then to present it to a panel of judges from business and education.
