The Inspiration
In February 2007, the staff of Heath Primary School met with their local cluster of schools to enjoy what was to turn out to be an inspirational INSET day. Teachers and teaching assistants, engaged in a wide range of excellent workshops led by well known educationalists Professor Stephen Heppell, Russell Prue, Doug Dickinson, Tricia Neal, Glyn Barritt and Tony Parkin. The evaluation of the event showed that it was a resounding success but also highlighted a real problem. When would participants have the chance to 'play' and put some of what they'd learned into practice with their pupils? Kim Neville, the Head at Heath Primary School and the staff put their heads together and the idea of the 'ICT Academy' was born.

The ICT Academy was a learning event which would occur one afternoon a week. Children would be engaged in a project which would lead to a specific learning outcome but would target the use of appropriate ICT Tools and techniques to support the activity. The Academy would enhance children’s learning across the curriculum and also provide a focus for the acquisition of ICT skills for both staff and pupils.
