Overview of Software:

URL – www.crystalict.co.uk

The World of Crystal Rainforest is an online ICT Solution that has been designed to help a school meet the demands of today’s curriculum. Packed full of high quality educational content, downloadable resources and teacher guidance, it will continue to grow with new products and features throughout 2007 and beyond, as it responds to the changing ICT needs of a school and its pupils. With no external links, teachers can be assured that pupils will be working online with e-safety within the World of Crystal Rain Forest.

As an online product, the software comes as a Community Licence, meaning children and teachers can access resources on the site 24/7 wherever they have access to the Internet.

Sherston are working with six primaries and one special school to develop this project. Unfortunately this trial is now closed but if you are interested in any opportunities which may be available in the future with this software please use the contact details on the next page to highlight your interest. read on….

Scope of Project

The commitment of the school is to:

use and integrate WoCRF into the every day teaching of ICT across KS1 & 2; feedback to Sherston & fellow teachers on the benefits of using the software by writing a short scenario; feedback to Sherston on any improvements teachers would like to see, using a pre-designed framework document.

It may be possible on completion of the feedback for some schools taking part in the project to be invited to BETT 2008 to work for some time on the Sherston stand talking to teachers about WoCRF.

The commitment of Sherston Software is to enable the school to use the product free of charge for a full year, provided they complete the necessary feedback. Schools will be able to continue with the product thereafter at a considerable discount provided schools are prepared to be ambassador schools and enter specific services regarding the use of WoCRF on the ICT Register. Email and telephone support will also be available via Sherston.

Timescales

The software would be made accessible to schools from July, with the project beginning fully in September. Feedback will need to be completed end of the Autumn Term to enable feedback and scenarios to be available for BETT 2008.

Update

This project is now full and schools will be reporting back on their activity towards the end of the Autumn term. If you are a ICT Register School and would like further information on this project or on any follow up activity please contact Pam Winn at [pamela.winn@ssatrust.org.uk].
