2Simple

The ICT Register’s joint project with 2Simple Software was launched at BETT 2006. During the spring term of that year primary schools on the ICT Register produced exciting examples of children's learning, showing how ICT can be fully embedded as part of a rich and creative teaching sequence. 2simple are supporting the project with over £15,000 worth of free software for schools, including the innovative 2connect mind-mapping software. Following the recognition by Secondary ICT Register schools’ that this highly visual software could enhance the learning of secondary school students, particularly those of lower ability, the project was extended to involve secondary schools. Due to the success of this project, 2Simple have agreed to extended it and it will now run through out 2007. We are enlisting schools who would like to take part during the rest of this year, so if you are an ICT Register school interested in joining the project then read on ...

Developing Learning Resources to support the work of the National Strategies

ICT Register Schools are asked to produce case studies of children’s work using 2Simple programs. These exemplify the use of the programs embedded in a unit of work so that children’s learning is enhanced. This project has been extended to December 2007 and there are opportunities for schools to take part in the Summer and Autumn Terms to plan projects and to take advantage of the offer from 2Simple Software to supply the software required to complete their project. Schools that took part in the original project and have sent in their work may also continue to produce case studies and their site licence will be extended.

The work produced will be displayed on 2Simple website (www.2simple.com), ICT Register website (www.ict-register.net) or in 2Simple program CDROMs to encourage teachers in good use of ICT. We ask that each case study will focus on a unit of work, the learning outcomes and will be accompanied by a brief explanation showing how the background to the unit was taught. Case studies should also be accompanied by a small range of examples of pupils’ work where possible. It is not always necessary that the examples submitted are the best in the class as long as the context of the work is given. 2Simple, ICT Register and the SSAT reserve the right to make additions or alterations to work submitted to ensure consistency and clarity. The resulting case studies will be available for all the schools taking part in the project. 2Simple software will acknowledge individual schools work on any of the distributed resources.

Schools Commitment

Participating ICT Register schools will need to identify

  • a ‘group/class’ to participate in their regional project. The group will use the software to meet the objectives of the project. * a single contact point to be responsible for ensuring the progress of the development activities and the production of the case study.
  • the unit of work to be covered. We will be looking for a range of work to include at least one unit of narrative, poetry and non fiction but also some non literacy based work e.g. using 2 Paint or Music Toolkit. Members of the 2Simple team or Register Team may contact the school to discuss the unit of work chosen.
  • the item of software required for the project.

2Simple will provide the participating schools up to a limit of 8 schools in each region with one item of relevant software for their particular project or one item of supporting software (single user license). In the event that the school is unable to complete a case study then the school will be given the opportunity to pay for the software or return it.

  • the school will have 2 terms in which to complete a casestudy.
